Groucho Marx meets Jules Verne

Ring in the New Year with British Blues, Groucho Marx, and Jules Verne on the next Dave White Presents!

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown joins Wes Britton to talk about the British blues revival of the 1960s and 70s and his legendary band, Savoy Brown. Back then, the hard-driving group issued popular albums like STREET CORNER TALKING and RAW SIENNA and had fm hits like “Tell Mama.” (Did you know the group Foghat was formed by 3 former Savoy Brown players?) Now, Savoy Brown is celebrating their 45th anniversary with a hot new CD, VOODOO MOON. Yep, we’ll play a sample.

Next, Dave White visits with Steve Stoliar, author of RAISED EYEBROWS—MY YEARS INSIDE GROUCHO’S HOUSE. Stoliar was Groucho Marx’s personal secretary and archivist during the show business icon’s final years. He got to “spend quality time” with, among others, Zeppo, Gummo, Mae West, George Burns, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon, SJ Perelman, and Steve Allen. The book earned rave reviews when it first came out over a decade ago—its new, expanded edition is earning even more praise from insiders and fans!

TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. These are the most famous novels by French author Jules Verne. But the imaginative creator of Captain Nemo spun a much wider canon of work including plays and short stories, much of which was never translated into English. Until now.

On the next DWP, Brian Taves, editor of a new series from the North American Jules Verne Society, shares the inside story into what readers can enjoy now due to an international effort to finally make the adventure writer’s full body of work available to the public. Did you know the novels you read as a child were dramatically altered by various editors and likely not the translation Verne intended? What’s going to happen in the new MYSTERIOUS ISLAND movie? Expect to be surprised--

All this comes your way on Tues. Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--

On Wed. Jan. 4, the 90 minutes of variety entertainment will become available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes and through TEVO, or on the player at--

lots of Firesign Theatre lately!

Comedy with The Firesign Theatre, New Rock from Nils Lofgren, and Part 2 of John McAdams on the JFK Assassination on the Next Dave White Presents!

Don't crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers! We're all Bozos on this bus. Everything you know is wrong! Firesign Theatre fans know these phrases well as they were titles of very popular comedy albums of the '60s and '70s. As founding member David Ossman shares with Wes Britton on the Dec. 6 edition of DWP, the Firesign Theatre is alive and well and still kicking! Their latest project is the Shakespeare parody, ANYTHINGE YOU WANT TO, which is both an audio and literary endeavor. David has so much to share about the Firesigns then and now that this will be a two-part conversation, making our December shows very special indeed!

December 6 is also a big date for another DWP guest, guitarist, singer, and songwriter Nils Lofgren. Not only does Nils talk about his work with Neil Young, Ringo Starr, and his 25 years with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, he shares the inside story of his brand-new album, OLD SCHOOL, which will be released just hours before his appearance on DWP! We'll play you two samples that demonstrate being "Old School" is still the best education in rock!

Proving once again that DWP puts the V in Variety, Dave White also offers part two of his very insightful conversation with Kennedy assassination expert, John McAdams. As with part one aired on our last broadcast, expect perspectives that might surprise you, even after all these years.

All this, and the usual unusual predictably unpredictable humor of Dave White Presents debuts Tues. Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over:

On Wed. Dec. 7, the 90 minutes will become available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes and through TEVO, or on the player at:
